NEW ORLEANS - Years after Hurricane Katrina and her
retarded stepchild Rita, the time is ripe for the media to fill a slow news
day with one of those whatever-happened-to stories. And the Obfuscator
stands firmly at the front of the rear of that bandwagon waving a bright
American flag made proudly in China to distract attention from the
relentless Marine-chomping carnage in Iraq and the fact that Osama bin
Laden’s approval rating is now higher than Dick Cheney’s.
First up, the blame game. Critics of the Bush
administration delight in pointing out that 77% of the residents in Orleans
parish, which includes New Orleans, voted for John Kerry in 2004. And that
Bush might’ve acted faster to save wealthier, whiter residents in, say, a
Dallas suburb. But that kind of finger pointing is repellent and
accomplishes nothing. What President Bush actually said is that he’d “act
faster to save wealthier, whiter residents in a Fort Worth suburb.”
